Mit großer Zukunft

Ready for the future - zum dritten Mal fand am 26.Oktober 2017 fand das Foresight Filmfestival in Halle an der Saale statt, erstmalig in Kooperation mit dem Werkleitz Festivals.
Auch 2017 erkundigten wir vielfältige "Zukünfte" unter unserem Motto "science meets visions", womit wir in kurzer Form das zentrale Anliegen des Festivals, den fruchtbaren Austausch über verschiedene Zukunftsentwürfe und die gewinnbringende Zusammenarbeit zwischen ganz unterschiedlichen Disziplinen umschreiben.
Am Festivalabend, den 26. Oktober 2017, wurden die 14 besten Wettbewerbsbeiträge vor großem Publikum präsentiert, die ungesehener nicht sein konnten: Sie handelten von der Zukunft. Von atemberaubendem, technologischem Fortschritt und gesellschaftlichem Wandel, von ihren Wechselwirkungen und den Chancen und Risiken, die sich daraus ergeben.
Urheber dieser Filme sind Leute, die es wissen wollen: Forschende, Filmschaffende, Projektentwickler*innen, Künstler*innen, Journalist*innen, Philosoph*innen und alle anderen, die Zukunft nicht dem Zufall überlassen. An den Schnittpunkten von Wissenschaft und Gesellschaft treffen sie aufeinander und extrapolieren aus dem heute Machbaren das morgen Mögliche: Wie können, wie wollen, wie werden wir leben?
Themen 2017
In die dritte Wettbewerbsrunde startete das Foresight Filmfestival mit zwei neuen Kategorien.
Während für die ersten beiden Festivalausgaben die Themen für die filmische Auseinandersetzung mit der Zukunft durch den Foresight-Prozess des Bundesministeriums für Bildung und Forschung gesetzt waren, wurden nun, gemeinsam mit den Teilnehmenden, neue Wege des Foresight-Prozesses beschritten, um neue relevante Zukunftsfelder und –trends zu identifizieren und kennenzulernen. Diese wurden am Festivalabend präsentieren, um darüber mit Ihnen und dem Publikum ins Gespräch zukommen.
Mit "Foresight Update" etablierten wir 2017 erstmalig eine themenoffene Wettbewerbskategorie und riefen damit Vordenker*innen aus allen Disziplinen dazu auf, sich filmisch mit der Frage "In welcher Welt wollen, in welcher Welt werden wir künftig leben?"auseinanderzusetzen und Zukunftsvisionen zu entwickeln. Ziel war es sie mit ihren individuellen Fragestellungen zu Technologie und Gesellschaft zu beteiligen, den Diskurs der Disziplinen zu erweitern und, gemeinsam mit ihnen, als eine Art Think-Tank neue Foresight-Themen, Trends, Fragestellungen zu identifizieren.
In unseren Wettbewerbskategorie "Stadt, Land, Zwischenräume" widmeten wir uns der Frage WO und Wie wir in Zukunft leben: In Megastädten mit kilometerhohen Skyscrapern? Auf dem flachen Land in Selbstversorgerkommunen? In Kleinstädten digital vernetzt mit der ganzen Welt?

Gewinne - 2 x 3.000 Euro + 1 x 3.000 Euro
Am Festivalabend, dem 26.10.2017, wählte das Publikum live im Saal und via Online-Zuschaltung den Foresight-Favoriten 2017. Dieser, mit 3.000 Euro dotierte Publikumspreis wurde von der DASA Arbeitswelt Ausstellung, einer Einrichtung der Bundesanstalt für Arbeitsschutz und Arbeitsmedizin (BAuA), bereitgestellt.
Über den Gewinnerfilm in jeder Kategorie, die mit Award und ein Preisgeld in Höhe von je 3.000 Euro ausgezeichnet wurde, entschied unsere Jury.
Die Gewinner 2017:
Den Jurypreis der Kategorie "Stadt, Land, Zwischenräume" gewann Mehmet Serif Karakoyun mit seinem Film "Snowflakes Used to Fall".
Den Jurypreis der Kategorie "Foresight Update" gewann Sebastian Egert mit seinem Film "A Very Near Future".
Den kategorienübergreifenden Publikumspreis gewann Zsuzsanna Koszti mit ihrem Film "Im Perfekt".
Format
Die Spots sollten mind. 30 Sekunden und max. 15 Minuten lang sein.
Einsendeschluss
Die Deadline zur Einreichung der Spots war der 15. August 2017.
Jury
Eine ausgewählte Fachjury aus Forschung und Film, Wirtschaft, Kultur und Medien wählte die besten 14 Kurzfilme für die Teilnahme am dritten Foresight Filmfestival aus. Insgesamt wurden über 700 Filme aus 77 Ländern zum Wettbewerb eingereicht. Neben den Filmen für das Festival- Screening wählte die Jury zudem den Gewinner-Film in beiden Kategorien.
Science-Vision-Festival
2015 startete unser hallescher Foresight Filmfestival-Pilot – konzipiert von der Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg (Prof. Dr. Wehrspohn) und der Gesellschaft für Wissenschaftskommunikation science2public -, um im Folgejahr gleich ein zweites Mal zur filmischen Entdeckungsreise aufzubrechen. Gefördert wurden diese beiden Expeditionen (Festival-Ausgaben) vom Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF), aus dessen Foresight-Prozess die Themen für die filmische Auseinandersetzung stammten.
Beim Foresight-Prozess handelt es sich um ein strategisches Instrument zur langfristigen Vorausschau, womit das Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung wissenschaftliche und technologische Entwicklungspotenziale der nächsten zehn bis fünfzehn Jahre von zwei Seiten beleuchtet: die technologischen Möglichkeiten einerseits, den gesellschaftlichen Bedarf andererseits. Foresight dient dabei vor allem als zeitgemäßes Dialoginstrument – denn die Zukunft voraussagen, kann selbstverständlich niemand.
Vor dem Hintergrund einer exponentiellen, technologischen Entwicklung und ihren Auswirkungen auf alle Bereiche des Lebens wird deutlich, dass viele Fragen offen sind und es der fortwährenden, gesellschaftlichen Verständigung darüber bedarf, wohin die Reise gehen soll. Dazu reicht es nicht, Wissenschaft und Gesellschaft nur zusammen zu denken, man muss sie miteinander ins Gespräch bringen. Dieser Kommunikation diente und dient das Foresight Filmfestival.
Start 2017: Den diesjährigen Blick in die Zukunft wagten wir mit neuer Unterstützung: Gefördert über den Sachsen-Anhalt-Medien e.V., die Kunststiftung des Landes Sachsen-Anhalt und die Kloster Bergesche Stiftung nahmen wir zwei neue Wettbewerbskategorien in den Fokus.
Im ersten Wettbewerb blickten wir in die unendliche Weite technologischer, sozialer – auch allgemein – gedanklicher Innovationen und riefen unter dem Titel Foresight update themenoffen Forschende, Wissenschaftler*innen, Filmschaffende, Medienkünstler*innen zur Einreichung eigener, interdisziplinärer Zukunftsvisionen auf. Im Zentrum unserer zweiten Kategorie stand das Thema Stadt. Land. Zwischenräume.
HINWEISE ZUR GEMEINSAMEN EXPEDITION „FORESIGHT FILMFESTIVAL N° 3“
Das Motto „science meets visions“, gedacht als gewinnbringende interdisziplinäre Kooperation, stand von Anbeginn im Zentrum des Festivals und für zwei Annäherungsperspektiven:
A: Hier dürfen und sollen Wissenschaftler*innen, Ingenieur*innen und Projektentwickler*innen Werbung für das machen, woran sie arbeiten, was sie begeistert und wie sie davon ausgehend in die Zukunft denken. Jedoch nicht alleine, sondern im Austausch und in Zusammenarbeit mit Film-, Medienschaffenden und Künstler*innen, die das Ganze um die Perspektive des gesellschaftlichen Interesses und mit Ihrem Wissen um Ästhetik, Erzählform etc. erweitern.
B: Hier sollen und dürfen kreative Geister Ihre Vision davon ausbreiten, wie die technologische oder gesellschaftliche Entwicklung unser aller Leben in zehn bis zwanzig Jahren aussehen lässt. Nicht jedoch ohne das wissenschaftlich zu fundieren, bestenfalls unterstützt/beraten von Wissenschaftler*innen oder Forschenden.

Ready for the future – for the third time the Foresight Filmfestival took place in Halle (Saale), this time in collaboration with the Werkleitz Festival. Together with scientists and filmmaker, we set out to our mission into a multifarious future. In the center of our festival was still the motto “science meets vision” - a slogan that we use to express the fertile exchange of diverse ideas of the future and gainful collaboration of different disciplines.
The competing contributions that were judged before a large audience and our jury on the festival evening, could not have been more novel: They were about the future, about breath-taking, technological advances and societal changes, as well as the resulting interactions, chances, and risks. The authors of the short films originated from different backgrounds: researchers, journalists, film makers, project developers, artists, philosophers and all those who do not want to leave the future to chance.
They met where science and society intersect, extrapolating the possibilities of tomorrow from the feasibilities of today: How do we want to live live? How will we live?
TOPICS 2017
With two new categories the Foresight Filmfestival started into its third edition.
While the topics were given by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) for the two first Foresight Festivals, we had stuck a new path with you in the foresight-process, identifying and exploring new relevant future fields and trends, that were presented at the festival evening and discussed with the audience.
With "Foresight Update" we had established a category without thematic restrictions and aimed at visionaries of all faculties, who deal filmically with the question of “In what world do we want to live and in what world will we live?”. We invited them to develop filmic visions of the future and wanted to involve them with their individual questions to technology and society. We wanted to extend the discourse of faculties and identify new Foresight- topics, trends and questionings.
In our second competition category "City, County, Interspace" we dedicated to the question of WHERE and HOW will we live in the future: In megacities with skyscrapers, stretching for miles? On the flat country-side in self-supporting communities? In small towns digitally connected to the whole world? And we asked for the position of humans in city, country and interspaces and looked at potentials, problems, innovations and individual needs in this existential field.
The approximation options were diverse: on a macro- and micro-perspective, with a technological starting point or the focus on deeply human desires.

At the festival evening on October 26, 2017, the audience decided live and online on the best 2017 Foresight short film. The winner received an award and € 3,000 in prize money, sponsored by DASA Working World Exhibition. The winning spot in each category was selected by our expert jury. The winners each received an award and € 3,000 in prize money.
FORMAT
The clips should be a minimum of thirty seconds and a maximum of fifteen minutes long.
SUBMISSION DEADLINE
The deadline for submitting spots was August 15, 2017.
JURY
A selected expert jury from the areas of research, film making, business, culture, and media had selected the best 14 short films per topic for participation in the third Foresight Filmfestival. They also selected the winning spot in each category. Furthermore, the audience decided on the best Foresight film live – and online – on the night of the festival.
SCIENCE-VISION-FESTIVAL
The first Foresight Filmfestival was developed by Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg (Prof. Dr. Wehrspohn) and science2public, association for science communication. It was launched in 2015, followed by a second cinematic discovery journey in 2016. Both expeditions (festival editions) were sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The topics for the cinematic debate emerged from the Foresight-Process initiated by the BMBF.
The Foresight-Process is a strategic tool for the prediction of future developments. In its latest Foresight discussion, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) examined the potential for scientific and technological development over the next ten to fifteen years from two sides: the technological possibilities (“technology push”) on the one hand and the needs of society (“demand pull”) on the other hand. Foresight serves in particular as a contemporary instrument of dialogue because, after all, nobody can predict the future.
In light of the nature of exponentially growing technological development (keywords: digital revolution, second modernity, industry 4.0) and its impacts on all areas of life, it is becoming clear that many questions still remain unanswered and that it requires the continual understanding of society to know where all of this should lead. It is not enough for science and society to brainstorm together, it is imperative that they communicate. This is the purpose of Foresight Filmfestival.
The Foresight Filmfestival 2017 was funded by new partner - the association Saxony-Anhalt-Media, the Art Foundation of Saxony-Anhalt and Kloster Bergesche Foundation - and it stimulated two new competition categories.
In the first competition "Foresight Update" we looked at boundless vastness of technological, social and general intellectual innovation. We invited scientists, researchers, film makers, media artists to submit their own interdisciplinary future visions. The second category focused on the topic "City, Country, Interspace".
NOTES ON THE COMMON EXPEDITION “FORESIGHT FILMFESTIVAL N ° 3”
As already mentioned, our theme “science meets visions” – designed as a beneficial interdisciplinary cooperation – is the heart of every Foresight Filmfestival. We are approaching this cooperation from two perspectives:
A: Scientists, engineers, and project developers can take the opportunity to advertise their work and let us know what they are enthusiastic about and how they are thinking into the future.
However, this is an interdisciplinary approach and exchange in collaboration with film and media makers or artists. It is essential to expand the project from the perspective of societal interest and knowledge combined with aesthetics, narrative forms, etc.
B: Right here, creative minds will be able to expand their own vision, how technological or societal development will influence our daily life in about ten to twenty years. Support and consultancy from scientists or researchers are more than welcome.
